I have some experience with game engines like Unity and GameMaker, but I am also a programmer and can use code-based engines (particularly HaxeFlixel).
A game prototype from Game Design II. Showcases my ability to design and code responsive UI systems and game sprites.
Final project for GDII. A collectathon game with multiple abilities used for navigating different sections of the world, and skill point systems for finding loot.
I have a fair amount of experience with HaxeFlixel. This is a non-GUI, code-based game engine with a language based on ActionScript.
While not as popular or beginner friendly, code-based engines like Haxe offer fantastic control, power, and versatility for developers who can code.
Thus, my time manually coding in Haxe has made me an adaptable coder who is willing to learn.
For transparency, I am coding a fangame from the ground up in Flixel, inspired by and based on Undertale and another popular fangame Undertale Yellow.
Please be aware that the sprites shown in this section are not mine: this is for code demonstration only.
Here are some core features that I have added:
Party members following the player
Draw order and perspective using a dynamic scroll speed system
Ultimately, this should demonstrate I have an understanding of game structure and development from the backend, and I am not merely a master of one engine or software.
My skill in both programming and art will make me useful in multiple sectors, and a better communicator across departments of game development.
